Guten Morgen! Finally I have some internet access to share some Euro adventures with you guys.

First up, I just have to fill you in on my time in Switzerland at the magical resort of Nira Alpina.

Nira Alpina, a glass-and-timber-built mountain sanctuary is just five kilometres away from the popular resort town of St. Moritz. It is a ski-in ski-out billionaire’s playground perched on top of the village of Silvaplana and is an absolute hidden treasure. The resort is newly built, very well equipped and the atmosphere is filled with romance and excitement. It is a perfect winter escape for couples or a group of friends who want to enjoy the Swiss-Alpine in style.

If you are a interior design junkie, the spaces will steal your heart. Locally sourced materials like wood and granite are used to create bachelor pad-like spaces with large wooden tables, soft leather bound couches with fur throws facing a granite fire place. The tall swathes of glass with unconstructed views add light and elegance to the rooms (I took about 1000 photos for my ‘dream home’ desktop folder).

Skiing

You cannot visit Switzerland without at least one attempt on the mountain. Not only is it ridiculously fun it is a huge part of the lifestyle in Silvaplana and it is a massive topic of conversation – so it is best to be in the loop. There are 120 kilometres of ski runs literally on the doorstep of the resort, so it was pretty daunting and we didn’t know where to start. So we had a 2hour private ski lesson thanks to Ski Service Corvatsch, which is one of the most regarded ski schools in the world. They were extremely helpful. I have had about 6years skiing experience, but lessons are extremely valuable, especially when skiing on an unfamiliar mountain. The instructor not only brought be back to basics but we worked on technique, such as how to ski with grace and elegance on the mountain (pretty cool!).

Wine + Dine

Christmas Eve we enjoyed dinner at The Stars, which is on the top floor of the resort and has spectacular views of the mountains. They have an extensive wine list and the menu is fairly diverse to accommodate for the range of nationalities visiting the resort. They have lots of healthy options, including Japanese. The staff were incredibly accommodating. When speaking with the resort manager I mentioned how my boyfriend and I were obsessed with Japanese food, especially sashimi. Sashimi was not included on the menu. However that night when we went for dinner the manager himself brought out a 5type sashimi platter and said ‘Merry Christmas, it’s on the house’.

Christmas Day we dined at Stalla Vaglia, Nira Alpina’s classic Engadin-style restaurant. There was a set menu for Christmas Day, which included hearty lamb shanks and roast chicken dishes. The perfect hearty meal for a winter Christmas lunch.

Breakfast

Enjoy freshly baked croissants (baked on site at Nira Alpina’s bakery), bacon and eggs or a bowl of granola overlooking some of Switzerland’s highest mountains, including Corvatsch, the highest mountain in the upper Engadin skiing region.

Unwind

After a long day on the slops one of the best things to do is indulge in a treatment at the full-service spa. The spa looks over the slopes so it is incredibly relaxing.

Complimentary shuttle service (Mercedes mind you) to pick up and drop off to the resort if you find you get a little lazy after a long day on the slopes…
