Moti Mahal, Covent Garden, London

This is no ordinary Indian.

Moti Mahal is one of London’s finest modern Indian restaurants creating an elegant, gastronomic experience in the heart of London’s West End. Moti Mahal is a mile ahead compared to other Indian restaurants in London. Its not heavy, thick curries that you can smell on your fingers for days. It is sleek, polished and incredibly fresh. It honestly felt like a Michelin experience.

It is a popular, easy-going venue for an impressive business meet & greet, birthday dinner with friends or those looking for a sophisticated spot, before or after the theatre. Thought Indian was a no go for a first date cuisine? Think again. This place is incredible stylish, has a great wine list and cocktail menu and would knock the socks off any foodie.

The food? With the Delhi-born Anirudh Arora operating as Head Chef since the restaurant’s opening in 2005, the menu focuses on Arora’s passion for the cuisine of India’s famed Grand Trunk Road, in the North of the Country. With an emphasis on traditional technique, combined with innovative style the team at Moti create well balanced, beautiful dishes. Two highlights on the menu for me were the truffle and cheddar nann and the Macchi grilled salmon – mouthwatering!

The cocktail menu is expansive and includes a combination of old favourites and contemporary mixology including Ginger Gin Julep and Moti Royal. There is a large selection of exclusive whiskies, including some of the rarest vintages in London, so it’s easy to see why the restaurant was awarded with the Silver Medal by the Scotch Whisky Society.

Really looking forward to visiting next time I am back in London.
