5 reasons why you need to visit Rocket, Holborn, London

There is no doubt about it, you are always completely spoilt for choice with dining options in London. Sometimes there are so many options my brain fries up and I resort to huffing off to Sainsbury’s  and picking up something usually of poor nutritional quality (like a bag of Peanut M&M’s or Twix). Add to the fact that London is such a huge city it can be hard to figure out what areas are worth exploring without getting stuck in the tourist trap of over priced, poor quality food.

I am really loving central London at the moment. Think Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Green Park. It is smack bang in the middle of the city with so much hustle and bustle. For anyone who is new to London, this is the area that you would probably spend most of your time as a lot of the cities landmarks circulate this area (Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben). But with that in mind there are sooo many dodgy, touristy restaurants around with waiters waving you in at any chance they get.

I was meeting up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a very long time and wanted to take her somewhere nice, somewhat fancy (but casual enough so we could just meet up after work) and somewhere we could enjoy a cocktail and a lovely meal. I did some digging and found a really great place I wanted to share with you.

It’s called ROCKET and is located in Holborn which is right next door to Piccadilly Circus. It was such a great restaurant for all the right reasons and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Below are the top 5 reasons why you should visit ROCKET. Where you’re a local Londoner or just visiting for a couple of weeks.

1. A fancy venue (with perfect lighting!)

When I was walked into Rocket, it felt like I was walking into a Nobu-type michelin restaurant. It is so well presented and chic. You walk down the stairs and are welcomed by a gorgeous front of house goddess who assists with your booking. A glassed bar runs along the side where businessmen and women enjoy a glass of wine over what look like business discussions and VIP chat (I really have no idea what they were talking about but it looked interesting). It had the perfect lighting that made the venue feel very romantic. It’s the perfect location for a first date, girls night out or even a pre hen’s get together. You can even hire out the venue for an event (up to 180 people), so any office managers out there planning their work Christmas party – this could be the place for you!

2. The menu has variety, ensuring everyone is happy!

When travelling with a group of friends or family it’s hard deciding on a place to eat when in a new city. Both funds and taste come into play. Rocket’s menu offers a lot of variety. Everything from pizzas to steak to fish to turkish delights. They also have a varied price range that is able to suit everyone without any awkwardness.

3. The Portion Sizes

After walking around all day all you want is a meal the size of your carry on luggage to get stuck into. Well, let me tell you – Rocket is where you want to be going. The portion sizes are MASSIVE. The creme brulee dessert was about the size of a small pizza. It was so delicious it was hard trying to squeeze everything in.

4. You don’t have to worry about opening hours & they are flexible with bookings

Rocket is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks. This includes the bar & 2 private dining areas in the restaurant. So if you were in charge of booking the restaurant but forgot – you know you can always turn up to Rocket and they should be able to work something out. It is conveniently located just a stone’s throw from the West End & many of London’s theatres so they offer the perfect pre or post theatre dining experience. When the weather permits you can dine al fresco on the terrace facing Lincoln’s Inn Fields.

5. The Staff

The staff at Rocket Holborn were definitely a highlight of my night. Let’s be real, some staff at restaurants can be irritatingly annoying. Either hovering too much or completely neglecting your table. The guys at Rocket Holborn were really fun and made games out the menu, like guessing what we were going to order (ok, this sounds really weird but trust me, we were all laughing). Our waiter also knew the menu inside and out and had tried everything so was a great help for indecisive people like me. It was really refreshing to have such relaxed, wait staff serve us (whilst still remaining professional) in such a gorgeous chi-chi venue. We were able to chat honestly without worrying about it they will frown upon our order (some michelin can totally make you feel like that!).
